Fourth session added to Asheville City Manager search community discussion series

Posted on May 18, 2018March 13, 2019 by Polly McDaniel

As the City of Asheville embarks on a mission to hire a new City Manager, City Council wants to ask you — Asheville residents — what qualities you think are important for the next person in this role.

City staff held two May 10 discussion sessions at the Skyland Fire Department in South Asheville.

Another community discussion is set for 10 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, May 19, at the City’s Public Works Building, 161 S. Charlotte St., Room A109.

Additional outreach

In an effort to include more residents in this community conversation, a fourth session has now been added. This will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. May 24 at the Grant Southside Center, 285 Livingston St. As with the other meetings, child care will be provided for children age 5 and above. Interpretive services will also be available.

These are open-ended discussions, asking residents what qualities and qualifications they think would be important for Asheville’s next City Manager.

Qualities identified by the community will help form the profile for the ideal candidate. This profile will be used in the nationwide recruitment effort. The profile is one of the most important pieces in finding the candidate best fit for Asheville. The profile determines the pool of candidates from which City Council will choose.

City Council hires the City Manager position.

“This is a critical role for the City of Asheville,” said Mayor Esther Manheimer. “Council is committed to finding the most qualified candidate to serve our residents and City staff.”

Remember, your input will help inform the process. We look forward to your participation in the City Manager search process!
