The City of Asheville, alongside members of the Urban Forestry Commission and RiverLink, invites the community to celebrate Arbor Day in the RAD on Saturday, April 11, 2026. Activities will take place at two locations; the Craven Street Boat Launch and the Smoke Stack. Those activities include:

Tree planting demonstrations
Riparian zone walk-and-talks
Giving away tree seedlings
Showing people how to care for trees that pop up on their own
Sharing information about community projects like the currently-in-production Urban Forest Master Plan
And more!

Arbor Day in the RAD at a Glance

Date: Saturday, April 11, 2026
Time: 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Locations: Craven Street Boat Launch (192 Riverside Drive) & The Smokestack (91 Riverside Drive)
Cost: FREE!
Parking: Use the free public parking lot north of Craven Street, and please leave space at the Boat Launch parking for folks putting boats in the water that day. Additional free public parking is available along Riverside Drive and just south of Jean Webb Park.

Come for the trees, stay for the art!

Support our partners! Stay to enjoy the RAD Sip and Shop hosted by dozens of galleries and studios in the River Arts District. The Sip and Shop starts at 10:00 a.m. and goes until 5:00 p.m.

In the event of weather:

The event will be cancelled if thunderstorms are in the forecast, but we won’t let a few sprinkles  get in the way. Any rain date will be determined at a later time. Follow the City of Asheville on Instagram or Facebook for any last minute weather updates or cancellations.

You can find more information about Asheville’s urban tree canopy on our Urban Forest Master Plan Project Public Information Page.
