After processing 1,044,240 cubic yards of storm debris, operations at Enka Commerce Park were completed on September 4, and the site has been restored to its original condition. No further debris activity will take place at Enka Commerce Park. Storm debris processed at Enka Commerce Park was hauled to a final disposal facility outside of Buncombe County.

“We are grateful for the patience of nearby residents and businesses during this process,” said Jes Foster, Sanitation Division Manager and City Debris Lead. “This temporary debris site was an essential step in ensuring the City’s recovery efforts moved forward efficiently and safely.”

The City of Asheville would like to thank the community for its patience as Enka Commerce Park served as a temporary storm debris management site following Tropical Storm Helene.

Background

The temporary storm debris site was critical for community safety and economic recovery, enabling debris from neighborhoods and roadways to be processed and quickly transported to a final disposal site outside Buncombe County.

Activities at this temporary site include processing vegetative and construction debris. No hazardous waste was processed at this management site. This site was used exclusively by authorized contractors and staff to accelerate the cleanup process and was not open to the public.
