The City of Asheville marked 25 years since the September 11th attacks with a remembrance ceremony on Friday, Sept. 11, 2026.
The event honored the lives lost, the bravery of first responders, and the resilience of our nation.
Featured speakers included representatives from the Asheville Fire Department, Asheville Police Department, and the City Manager’s Office. Their remarks reflected the impact of 9/11 both nationally and locally, and underscore Asheville’s ongoing commitment to public safety and community resilience.
“The national tragedy we shared as Americans on September 11, 2001 was felt in every city in our country,” says Asheville City Manager DK Wesley. “Now, 25 years later, as we gather to remember the lives lost, we also honor the true courage and heroism of those who responded. From the first responders at the scene to the friends helping neighbors cope with shock and grief, it reminds us of the strength found in community. It is with those lessons we move forward with a dedication to public safety, and with compassion for our community.”
“The events of Sept. 11, 2001, are etched in our collective memory,” says Asheville Fire Chief Mike Cayse. “On this milestone anniversary, we gather not only to remember but to renew our commitment to service, unity, and hope.”
