Do you want to help shape the future of Asheville? Now is your chance to lead, serve, and make a difference in your community.

The City of Asheville is currently seeking qualified applicants for two key boards: the Planning and Zoning Commission and the Buncombe County Tourism Development Authority. These opportunities allow residents and industry professionals to directly influence the growth, development, and vitality of our city.

Planning and Zoning Commission

This Commission plays a vital role in shaping the built environment of Asheville. As an advisory board to City Council, members review proposed changes to zoning regulations and land use plans, study trends in development and traffic, and help guide long-term planning efforts.

This vacancy must be filled by an Asheville City resident.

Buncombe County Tourism Development Authority (BCTDA)

This seat is designated for an owner or operator of a hotel, motel, bed and breakfast, or vacation rental management company with 100 or fewer units. BCTDA members guide how occupancy tax revenues are invested to promote travel and tourism in our region. Their work also supports community projects through programs like the Tourism Product Development Fund and the Legacy Investment from Tourism Fund.

Application Deadline: Tuesday, July 29, 2025

City of Asheville residents are given preference for appointment, though non-residents may be considered for hard-to-fill seats or those requiring specialized expertise.
