Renovated Carrier Park building is now open!

No more portable potties at Carrier Park. Final inspections for the newly renovated Carrier Park restrooms/registration building have been completed and it is NOW OPEN.

Thanks to everyone for their patience while the City renovated the restrooms!

The project brings the building into compliance with the Americans with Disability Act. In addition to updating the plumbing, electrical and mechanical aspects of the building, the renovation added more natural light and upgraded gender specific restrooms. The facility also now includes a large family and gender neutral bathroom/changing room, storage space and a registration area that may be used by groups when renting Carrier Park for an event. There’s an additional charge of $50 per day.

“This renovation should serve our community for decades,” said Roderick Simmons, City of Asheville, Director of Parks and Recreation. “The building that houses the restrooms at our City’s most popular park was built in the 1960s and hadn’t been upgraded since. It was time.”

Last spring, City Council voted to enter into the agreement with Carolina Cornerstone Construction of Asheville for a total budgeted project of $290,000, which included $15,892 from the contingency fund. The project was completed on-time and on budget.
