Some resurfacing projects are going on that the City of Asheville would like to make residents and businesses aware of.
Resurfacing of College Street from Tunnel Road to Vance Gap is expected to begin soon. The section between North Spruce Street and Broadway is expected to be worked on the week of Dec. 11. As crews complete the Bear Creek resurfacing they will begin College Street. One lane will remain open, and traffic control will be in place to direct vehicles and pedestrians.
Sidewalk replacements are occurring on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive in advance of street resurfacing in the spring. This winter nine storm drain pipes will also be replaced in preparation of paving the road.
Another large project is sidewalk improvements and resurfacing work to take place on Banks Avenue between Coxe Avenue and Church Street in the South Slope. The sidewalk improvements (to bring ramps and walks closer to ADA compliance) are underway with the resurfacing expected to begin December 1 and take two to three weeks to complete (weather permitting). This will include milling, patching, utility work and resurfacing.
No full street closures are expected; one lane is planned to remain open, and traffic control will be in place to direct vehicles and pedestrians.
Residents can also expect resurfacing and re-opening of Collier Avenue between Banks and Buxton avenues. This work, in addition to a portion of resurfacing on Banks Avenue, is being is being funded in partnership with the property owner of 150 Coxe Avenue.
City staff is doing outreach to South Slope businesses and will continue to provide updates.
