Original story:

Waters that rose in heavy rain, flooding some Asheville streets Monday, have now receded and streets have reopened.

Call volumes to Asheville emergency phones had returned to normal by 10 p.m. Monday as minor flooding receded. A large tree that fell over in an Amboy Road landslide in West Asheville cut off that major commuter route. The NCDOT maintains Amboy Road. They got it cleared and reopened in time for Tuesday morning’s commute.

Asheville Public Works staff spent Monday and into the overnight out monitoring streets and stream levels, closing roads as necessary. Some issues remain on Azalea Road, so proceed with caution when traveling in that area.

Public Works Streets Division Manager Chad Bandy said Cambridge and Skyview streets had mudslides on them that crews plan to address starting today. Crews have cleanup work to with mud on Azalea Road as well.

The National Weather Service reported that Asheville received 2 ½ inches of rain on Monday, a record for this date.

The storms knocked out power to hundreds of North Carolina residents. As of Tuesday morning, a Duke Energy power outage map showed some scattered outages in the Asheville area.
