Asheville Parks & Recreation invites community to participate in food and nutrition survey

In May 2020, Asheville Parks & Recreation was awarded a grant from the National Recreation and Parks Association, funded by the Walmart Foundation, for the development of a community nutrition hub at Stephens-Lee Community Center, 30 George Washington Carver Ave. The grant will help improve our community’s access to healthy foods, support existing food working groups, and implement nutrition programming.

To better understand the needs of the community surrounding nutrition and food insecurity, the Parks & Recreation Department has created an online survey available at this link.

The survey asks questions concerning food availability, transportation to food resources, and nutritional knowledge. All residents of Buncombe County are encouraged to participate.

Printed copies of the survey will be available at the City of Asheville Community Centers.

The survey is also available at these links in Spanish, Russian and Ukrainian.

After completing the survey, participants may choose to submit their contact information to be entered into a drawing for a deep freezer. All contact information will remain confidential.

The survey will close at 11:59 p.m. April 12.

Asheville Parks & Recreation would like to thank the National Recreation and Parks Association Nutrition Grant Cross Sector Project Team and community stakeholders for their valuable feedback and contribution to the creation of the survey.
