The 2018 Movies in the Park season kicks off with Disney favorite “Moana.”

The City of Asheville Parks & Recreation Department launches the 2018 season of Movies in the Park, a free monthly movie series on the Roger McGuire Green in Pack Square Park, beginning May 11.

Because several movies were rained out last year, we’re giving families an opportunity to see them this summer. This month’s feature presentation is the 2016 Disney favorite “Moana,” about a sea voyaging daughter of a Hawaiian chief. When her island’s fishermen can’t catch any fish and the crops fail, she learns that the demigod Maui caused the blight by stealing the heart of the goddess, Te Fiti. The only way to heal the island is to persuade Maui to return Te Fiti’s heart, so Moana sets off on an epic journey across the Pacific. The film is based on stories from Polynesian mythology. Come out to see it May 11!

Bring a chair or a blanket and come out for crafts, a movie in the park, and an evening of fun, all for free. Children’s craft activities begin at 6:30 p.m. and the movie begins at dusk on a giant screen on the Pack Square Park stage.

Movies in the Park continues monthly through September. Each month, children’s craft activities begin at 6:30 p.m., followed with the movie at dusk. All movies are rated G or PG.
