Asheville GreenWorks Hard to Recycle collection happens Saturday

Packing peanuts cluttering up your life? What about old cellphones collected through the years?

These items don’t go in your regular recycling bin but you can responsibly dispose of them during Asheville GreenWorks next Hard to Recycle event, coming up Sept. 17 in the Swannanoa area.

Items can be dropped off from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Madden Ace Hardware, 2319 U.S. 70, Swannanoa.

GreenWorks will accept a lot of items that we tend to accumulate: Styrofoam, used books, printer toner cartridges, CDs/DVDs and even bicycles.

So check it out and scour your household, then make a calendar reminder for the Sept. 17 Hard-2-Recycle Collection.

The City of Asheville’s Office of Sustainability encourages everyone to recycle as much as we can. The goal is to educate, collect and divert items that would normally end up in the landfill.

Items not accepted: These include paints, stains and sealers as well as hard plastics, VHS/cassette tapes, fluorescent/incandescent bulbs, plate glass, wooden items or cement.

Also there will be a $10 recycling fee for TVs and CRT monitors. For a full list of what will be accepted at this event, see the sheet below.
