Asheville Fire Department to participate in Norfolk Southern hazmat safety training

The Norfolk Southern hazmat safety train will be in Asheville on August 7-11 delivering training to the Asheville Fire Department and other area first responders. The train consists of a distinct engine honoring police, fire and emergency services; two boxcars converted into classrooms; and four types of tank cars.

 

 

WHAT: AFD to participate in Norfolk Southern emergency response preparedness training.

 

WHEN:

  • August 7 specific to rescue training operations
  • August 8-10 general emergency’s response training
  • August 11 specific to HazMat training operations

 

WHERE: Norfolk Southern Yard, 70 Meadow Road, Asheville.

Media are invited to see training scenarios performed by AFD on Norfolk Southern’s new hazmat safety train. The train is part of Norfolk Southern’s Operation Awareness & Response program to strengthen relationships with local first responders and to provide training on hazardous materials transport and railroad operations.
