APR Innovators is an Asheville Parks & Recreation series highlighting team members going above and beyond to bring huge value to community members through knowledge, connections, and insight that come from a desire to create the best city possible through the power of high-quality recreation programs and safe parks that welcome everyone.

When did you join the Asheville Parks & Recreation (APR) team?

I joined as a Program Leader at Burton Street Community Center in March of 2022.

What inspired you to apply to join the team?

My knowledge of how fun it is to work for a parks and recreation department from previously working in one in Wisconsin.

Which accomplishments are you most proud of in terms of your work with the department?

It feels great any time there’s been high attendance and kind feedback from the community when we host successful programs and special events. Some of my favorites have been dog events, hula hooping, puzzle paloozas, family paint nights, and cribbage club.

For you personally, what does it mean to work for the department?

As someone who moved to Asheville only a couple of years ago, APR has been a great way to meet people in the community and learn how to help make a difference in their lives through our accessible and unique programming.

How have you grown professionally by working with APR?

I’ve learned more about how to create successful programs and events for the community which is something I did not do much working in a different parks and recreation department. There is definitely a lot of behind the scenes work and I love seeing it all come together.

How would you complete this sentence: “I work for Asheville Parks & Recreation because…”

…it is fun to create positive experiences for the community!
