At the May 26, City Council meeting, Council members took action and were presented information on several agenda items. The meeting featured a public hearing on the proposed FY27 budget as well as an item related to the continued commitment to cleanliness and public health measures. Each demonstrated the Council’s focus on transparency, accountability, and thoughtful decision-making.

Complete details on all agenda items and actions are available in the official meeting materials available on the City of Asheville website and a complete recording of the session is available on the City of Asheville YouTube channel.

Consent Item C. Increase of funding for Litter & Cleanliness Program Contract     APPROVED
This resolution approves a funding increase and contract extensions for the City’s Litter and Cleanliness Program to allow for the continuation of litter pickup and biohazardous debris removal services for Fiscal Year 2027.

“Maintaining a clean and safe community remains a top priority for the City of Asheville. This continued investment ensures we can respond to litter, illegal dumping, and biohazardous debris in a timely manner while supporting public health, environmental stewardship, and quality of life for our residents and visitors,” said Sanitation Division Manager Jes Foster. “These services provide important flexibility to address evolving community needs and help keep our public spaces clean, welcoming, and safe for everyone.”
