The City of Asheville’s Neighborhood Advisory Committee invites everyone to a second Neighborhood Issue Forum. The forum will provide an opportunity for neighborhoods to discuss and find possible solutions to a particular issue. The second Issue Forum is on the City’s Noise Ordinance revisions project.
The Neighborhood Issue Forum is set for 10 a.m. to noon Aug. 3 at A-B Tech Community College’s Conference Center, 16 Fernihurst Drive. Registration begins at 9:30 a.m. Refreshments will be served.
The event is free and everyone is welcome to attend. Representatives from all City neighborhoods and associations are especially encouraged to attend. We do ask that participants RSVP at this Eventbrite link to help us get a headcount for planning purposes.
The Noise Ordinance revisions project is being led by the City’s Development Services Department, which has been engaging neighborhood and business groups during the first half of the year. In February, City staff began analyzing available data and benchmarking case examples to better understand excessive noise. March through mid-June the launched a survey on Open City Hall Asheville to gauge residents’ experience with noise. In addition, Asheville residents have been encouraged to provide input about their experience with excessive noise using NoiseScore*, a free smartphone and tablet app for Androids and iPhones developed by Boston University’s Community Noise Lab and Software & Application Innovation Lab (SAIL). Using that input and data, City staff expect to draft noise ordinance revisions for City Council’s consideration later this year.
