City of Asheville announces Broadway Public Safety Station gets occupancy approval

BPSS Bay doors for Fire trucks

Asheville Fire Department (AFD) assigned firefighters today began a transition to the new Broadway Public Safety Station (BPSS) located at 316 Broadway St.  Permission to occupy the new facility was granted on November 1, 2023.

BPSS is a state-of-the-art facility designed to bring together the collective expertise of both the AFD and the Asheville Police Department (APD) while facilitating improved response times to areas north of downtown.  APD utilization will be dependent upon staffing levels.

This facility will be home to Fire Station 13, the relocated Emergency Operations Center, and a small community conference room.

The Broadway Public Safety Station is not just a workplace, it’s also a home away from home for the firefighters who serve our community in round-the-clock shifts. To meet their needs, the building was conceived and designed to better accommodate the health and wellness of front-line workers.

You are going to see activity at the station as firefighters are already responding to calls as they continue the transfer.

There has been a lot of community excitement about the new station. To that end, the City of Asheville will host an opening event for the community.  Details of the event to come.
