APD Explorer Post competes in Winterfest

ASHEVILLE – On February 4th and 5th, young adults with the Asheville Police Departments Explorer Post traveled to Gatlinburg, TN; to compete in the Winterfest Competition held by the Boy Scouts of America.  The event had over 3,200 hundred participants this year and is an annual event that hosts approx. 80 different Explorer Programs from around the country.

The Asheville Police Explorers competed in four different events and placed first overall in the “Felony Vehicle Stop” event with a perfect score of 26 out of 26 possible points.  

Program Advisor, Det. Craig Loveland stated that “…we are very proud of their accomplishments not only at this event but throughout the year.  We strive for them to not only work hard but also to have fun.  This was a fantastic achievement for them, and they had a great time as well.”

Law Enforcement Exploring provides educational training programs for young adults on the purpose, mission, and objectives of Law Enforcement.  The program provides career orientation experiences, leadership opportunities, and community service activities.  The primary goals of the program are to help young adults with an interest in a career path within law enforcement and to challenge them to become responsible citizens in their communities.
