Food Policy Action Plan
The City of Asheville adopted Resolution 17-257, which re-established the City of Asheville’s Food Policy Action Plan. The plan outlines activities in seven priority focus areas. Access to healthy, nutritious food and the ability to cultivate, harvest, process, sell, share, and trade food contribute to a thriving and resilient city environment.
Actions Taken
- The City adopted Resolution 12-153, which designates Asheville as the inaugural Bee City, USA. Bee City USA is a collaborative initiative among backyard beekeepers, the Buncombe County Beekeepers Chapter, and the Center for Honeybee Research. The City of Asheville’s strategy includes cultivating pollinator plants and healthy ecosystems to support local food production.
- The City adopted Resolution 13-17 establishing a food policy action plan.
- Implemented service contracts with Asheville Buncombe Food Policy Council, Asheville Greenworks, and Bountiful Cities to implement Food Policy Action Plan recommendations and programs.
- Selected to participate in the National Resources Defense Council Food Matters Project.
