City of Asheville to provide live video feed of City Council committee meetings

Posted on September 14, 2018March 13, 2019 by Web Editors - CAPE

The City of Asheville is working to make local government more accessible and transparent to our residents. For several years, the City has offered a live feed on the City of Asheville’s website of regular City Council meetings, held the second and fourth Tuesday of the month in Council Chambers. We are now taking this a step further by offering a live video feed of City Council committee meetings.

Besides our more than 30 citizen-led advisory boards and commissions, City Council members vet local matters on six committees:

  •         Boards & Commissions Committee
  •         Governance Committee
  •         Finance and Human Resources Committee
  •         Housing & Community Development Committee
  •         Planning & Economic Development Committee
  •         Public Safety Committee

These City Council committees operate as policy review and discussion arms of City Council. The committees, each made up of three current council members, review policy matters referred to them, inform and educate Council on existing city programs and issues and review other related matters. Find a rundown of City Council Committees, their agenda, meeting minutes and meeting times at this link.

Starting this month, the City will offer a live video feed of these City Council committees on the City’s YouTube channel, where they will also be archived, the same as City Council meetings.

The first committee to be streamed with be the Housing & Community Development Committee, at 10 a.m. Sept. 18 in the Sixth Floor Training Room at City Hall.

As always, the community is welcome to attend the meetings in person. By taking the additional step of providing a live video stream online, we look forward to sharing the work of City government in an even more accessible and transparent way.
