The City of Asheville is moving forward with a streetscape restoration project in Biltmore Village aimed at repairing damage caused by Tropical Storm Helene. Funded by the North Carolina Department of Commerce’s Small Business Infrastructure Grant Program, the project will improve pedestrian safety and accessibility in the core of Biltmore Village while honoring the district’s historic character.

To inform the next phase of design, the City is inviting community members to a drop-in engagement session on July 22 to learn about the project and provide direct feedback.

Supporting Historic Character and Accessibility Through Recovery

As a designated historic district and the gateway to the Biltmore Estate, Biltmore Village is an iconic commercial hub. This project underscores the City’s long-term commitment to revitalizing public spaces hit hardest by Tropical Storm Helene. By prioritizing safe, accessible sidewalks the City is investing in the infrastructure local small businesses need to thrive, while ensuring a safe experience for residents and visitors alike.

“Rebuilding after Tropical Storm Helene is about more than just repairing infrastructure, it’s about intentional recovery,” said Walter Ear, the City of Asheville’s Capital and Asset Management Director. “With this project, our intention is to honor Biltmore Village’s historic past, make it accessible for everyone, and give our local business owners the support they need in order to recover.”

The City of Asheville invites community members, business owners, and residents to attend an upcoming drop-in public engagement session. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn more about the project, ask questions of the project team, and provide feedback that will inform the final restoration plan.
