Food scraps program adds new drop-off location

Asheville and Buncombe County residents now drop off their food waste at the North Asheville Community Center at 37 E Larchmont Rd. This ninth and newest drop-off site is accessible 24/7 and uses locally made Bearicade Bins to keep curious and hungry wildlife from exploring. Bearicade Bins were also installed by Buncombe County at the East Asheville Library drop-off location in 2025.

This project is a result of great teamwork and coordination between the City’s Public Works, Sustainability, and Parks and Recreation teams and the Buncombe County Solid Waste team.

The City-County Residential Food Scraps Drop-off Program was established in 2022, and program participants have already diverted 1.5 MILLION pounds of food waste from the landfill. Residents can join the effort for free by filling out the online food scraps drop off registration form. Questions? Email compost@ashevillenc.gov
