Be aware of parking meter payment scams

smart parking meter

City parking staff have discovered and removed stickers on about several City parking meters instructing parkers to scan a QR code for payment.

The City does not use QR codes on parking meters, and parking customers should not scan any codes to pay for parking.

Instead, parkers should continue to pay directly at the meter or use Flowbird’s text-to-pay or the Flowbird app to make a payment. If you see these stickers, please let us know by emailing parking@ashevillenc.gov or calling (828) 259-5792.

The links on the stickers lead to malicious software designed to steal payment and credit card information by taking customers to a fake parking site.  Approximately 20 stickers were found on Biltmore Avenue, Coxe Avenue, Pack Square and S Market Street. Parking staff are checking all meters to find and remove any additional stickers.
