Asheville Fire Department’s Assistant Fire Chief of Operations Patrick Crudup retires February 1

A native of Bunn, NC, Assistant Fire Chief Patrick Crudup graduated from Mars Hill College in 1995. He began his career with the City of Asheville in 1997, working for the city’s Parks and Recreation Department.

He joined the Fire Department in 2002 upon completing the Firefighter Training Academy. 

Over the years, he has worked his way through the ranks to where he now serves the department as Assistant Chief of Operations. Throughout his time in AFD his leadership in the REST team and Honor Guard has been invaluable.

“Serving alongside each of you has been a privilege and a defining part of my career,” said Assistant Chief Crudup. “I am sincerely grateful for your professionalism, dedication, and unwavering commitment to our crews and to the people we serve across the City of Asheville.”

Assistant Fire Chief Michael Coggins will assume the Interim Operations Bureau Chief role beginning February 1. A hiring process for the Assistant Fire Chief position will be shared within the next few weeks.
