Asheville Mayor Esther Manheimer and Helene Recovery Co-chair State Senator Kevin Corbin accompany North Carolina Governor Josh Stein on his most recent trip to Washington, DC on Wednesday, January 14. There, the group will meet with North Carolina Senators Ted Budd and Thom Tillis and the North Carolina House Congressional delegation hosted by Congressman Chuck Edwards. The focus of the trip is for these representatives of North Carolina to continue to stress to government leaders and agencies the real need for additional federal funding dedicated to continued recovery efforts.

“We are thankful for the state and federal funding support Asheville has received as we make significant strides in our recovery, but a long road remains before us. With the assistance of additional federal funds, we can continue the diligent work required to restore Asheville to the robust and resilient city our community deserves,“ says Mayor Esther Manheimer.

Mayor Manheimer, the Governor and NC Senator, will be speaking with representatives of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Affairs (HUD). Asheville is the recipient of $225-million in Disaster Relief Funding (CDBG-DR) from the federal agency to aid the city’s recovery from Hurricane Helene and its aftermath. Governor Stein, Manheimer, and Corbin will also meet with Acting Federal Emergency Management Administrator Karen Evans at FEMA headquarters.
