The City of Asheville has been awarded $2.4 million in funding from the State of North Carolina’s Department of Commerce’s Small Business Infrastructure Grant Program. The funding is intended to support public infrastructure projects in Biltmore Village, aiding in the ongoing recovery efforts following catastrophic impacts from Tropical Storm Helene. This award will help to address necessary repairs, resiliency improvements, and upgrades to vital public infrastructure damaged by the storm.
The focus of the allocation is on projects that will support the economic recovery of Biltmore Village, a unique historic district and major economic hub for the region.
“We’re thankful the State has provided this essential recovery funding for three Asheville projects in the Biltmore Village area,” said Asheville Mayor Esther Manheimer. “Improving access and infrastructure not only helps our small, independent businesses, it bolsters the recovery and future resilience of our entire economy and community.”
Award specifics:
- $871,649 to support the restoration of approximately 3,000 square yards of historic brick sidewalks in Biltmore Village to preserve its character and improve accessibility and flood resilience.
- $968,622 to support the reconstruction of 36 ADA-accessible ramps throughout Biltmore Village to enhance pedestrian safety and access for residents, visitors, and local businesses.
- $652,530 to support the replacement of approximately 2,231 linear feet of historic curbing in Biltmore Village to improve stormwater management and restore the district’s historic aesthetic.
