When did you join the Asheville Parks & Recreation (APR) team?
Working at APR allows me to contribute positively to the community and have a meaningful impact on the children growing up in our community.
I started as a summer camp counselor at Burton Street Community Center on my first college summer break in the summer of 2011 and returned as a summer camp counselor through 2014 at Burton Street, Malvern Hills Park, and Walton Street Park. In 2015, I became a program leader at Dr. Wesley Grant Southside Sr. Community Center. By 2018, I advanced to the role of facility supervisor, working at both Grant Southside Center and Tempie Avery Montford Community Center, relocating solely to Avery Montford Center in 2021.
Which accomplishments are you most proud of in terms of your work with the department?
I have a passion for working with kids and creating a fun and safe environment. I love the kids getting opportunities to experience a variety of activities at an affordable cost.
Over the past several years, I have planned and coordinated youth programs including Fun Days Out, holiday camps, and spring break camps. These activities feature many activities such as swim play, Parents’ Night Out, bingo, game nights, talent shows, and other fun programs.
What do you do when you’re not working?
I enjoy reading, traveling, and spending time with my son, family, and friends.
