Happening Now

The community is invited to see the schematic drawings of the park renovations on Sunday, October 21, 2-4 p.m. at Richmond Hill Park.

The new schematic drawings will include restroom facilities, a shelter, play area and updated site furnishings. See the plans here.

Background

Seventeen million dollars of the citizen approved General Obligation Bonds is designated for parks projects. This funding will support the completion of major improvements to five parks (including Richmond Hill Park) and recreation facilities; acquiring land for parks; and improving outdoor courts, playgrounds and ball field lighting throughout the city.

The allocated budget to support the improvements at Richmond Hill is $520,000.

Richmond Hill Park is a major passive and active park resource in West Asheville. The City has developed the parking lot on site along with a disc golf course and mountain biking trails with volunteer efforts. The park is highly utilized by families as well as individuals and lacks supporting amenities such as a restroom facility, picnic shelters, site furnishings, gathering plaza, kiosks, interpretative and map signage, gates, play areas for youth and landscaping.

This project supports the City of Asheville’s values of continuous improvement and excellent service.
