Vance Athletic Field Improvements

Happening Now

March 27, 2019:  A follow-up meeting was held with community members in the Vance Elementary Gym to report on how the feedback received was incorporated into the project plan.  At the meeting it was announced that the 30-day contract awarding period has passed (the time between when we open bids and award a contract). This project is now anticipated to be re-bid next spring due to the use of the field during the school year and timing of construction.  Between now and when the project is re-bid next year, the school system is going to gather data about the resources needed to take down and put up the removable fence that is currently on the Vance Field.

March 18, 2019:  The Parks and Recreation Department Director, Roderick Simmons provided the information regarding the postponement as an update to the Asheville City Schools Board during their work session at Montford North Star Academy.  He also shared the Department’s response to the comments received at the February 27 meeting.

February 27, 2019: A public meeting was held at Vance Elementary School to gain input and hear concerns from the community regarding the project.
