Outdoor Court Renovations Bond Project

Happening Now

Work is underway on the first group of outdoor sport courts to be renovated with funding from the bond referendum passed in 2016.  The contractor for all three sites is French Broad River Paving, Inc.  The first three courts are:

Murphy-Oakley (East)

Rebuilding of the tennis and basketball courts is almost complete, with some final improvements to be made late winter/early spring. The project includes new fencing, new lighting, and improved ADA accessibility to the basketball court.

Malvern Hills Park (West)

This court replacement project is also almost complete with a new retaining wall, new fencing and new lighting.

Montford Park (North)

New basketball and tennis courts featuring new fencing, new lighting for the tennis courts, and improved ADA accessibility and parking are scheduled for completion 1st quarter, 2019.

In 2016, the outdoor court renovation plan was included in the City’s $17 million bond referendum to support park and recreation facilities improvements. The bond referendum was approved by Asheville voters resulting in an allocation of $1 million for outdoor court rebuilding projects.  Locations for court renovations were selected using an equity matrix that included condition of the existing facility, neighborhood demographics and park resource distribution.
