The City encourages everyone to take advantage of the Transit System, but before you head out, check the Transit System Service and Weather Alerts to make sure there is not a service outage or route change that could effect you reaching your destination. Also, please see below for holidays the Transit System does not have bus service.

Seeking Transit Riders for Advisory Committee

Dear Transit Riders,

The French Broad Metropolitan Planning Organization (FBMPO) is seeking applicants for the New Citizens Advisory Committee.  To apply to be on the committee please go to www.fbrmpo.org and click on “Citizens Advisory Committee” on the left hand column of the home web-site.  If you would like a paper version of the application, please contact Natalie Murdock at Natalie@landofsky.org or (828) 251-6622.  The committee service will last through October 2010.  Committee members must be residents of the MPO area (the urbanized areas of Buncombe and Haywood Counties and all of Henderson County). The group that will seek to enhance citizen and public involvement in the MPO’s Long Range Transportation Plan (LRTP) by providing input on key regional planning activities and promoting public involvement in the planning process.

It is important that the committee include a range of transportation perspectives, so please think about volunteering to serve, be you pedestrian, transit rider, or bicyclist.  Within the FBMPO there are limited entities that have transit services, so it is important for those who use transit to be represented on this committee.

The FBMPO works cooperatively with the NCDOT to develop transportation plans, travel models, transit plans, and bicycle and pedestrian plans.  The MPO also works with the state on funding issues for transportation improvements, project planning, and issues such as environmental impacts and air quality, and with local governments to coordinate land use and transportation planning. Local governments belonging to the MPO are Buncombe, Haywood and Henderson Counties, and Asheville, Biltmore Forest, Black Mountain, Canton, Clyde, Flat Rock, Fletcher, Hendersonville, Laurel Park, Maggie Valley, Mills River, Montreat, Waynesville, Weaverville, and Woodfin.
