The City of Asheville hosted a series of meetings and online opportunities for public comment to gain input and feedback from the general public on future programming and facility improvements to be located in the Montford Center Complex. The input was used to develop the master plan and programming within the facility.

Montford Center Complex Master Plan


A master plan for renovation of the park surrounding the Montford Recreation Center is underway to support future park improvements and support activities in the park.

The 17-acre park and recreation center, located at 34 Pearson Drive in the historic Montford neighborhood, currently provides both public open space and indoor recreation programming.

The Montford Center Complex Master Plan will identify recommendations for improvements:

  • Existing facilities and vehicular and pedestrian circulation including compliance with the
    Americans with Disabilities Act
  • Public input on desired facilities within the park
  • Address connectivity to surrounding neighborhood
  • Respond to planning efforts by the Montford Park Players to improve the Hazel B. Robinson
  • Develop construction documents and specifications for the first phase of renovation


2016 - Construct the first phase of project

2015 - Prepare construction documents and bid construction contract for the first phase of project

2014 - Master Plan review and final approval

June 3, 2014 - Public input session on master plan final concept design, and program survey.
