City offers volunteer training for handicapped parking violations
ASHEVILLE - The City of Asheville is once again seeking applicants for the Volunteer Handicapped Parking Enforcement Program.
Interested volunteers will be responsible for assisting in the enforcement of handicapped parking spaces in the city.
Training begins Nov. 12. The program is administered by the Parking Services Division and the Asheville Police Department.
Volunteers must successfully complete a background check and the training program before assuming duties.
Training includes instruction in pertinent laws and ordinances, identification of appropriate handicapped placards and plates, how to write citations, and other administrative responsibilities.
Volunteers will then be able to assist city officials in enforcing the proper use of parking spaces designated for handicapped users.
Volunteers must live in Asheville, Buncombe County, or any county bordering Buncombe.
Contact Parking Services Manager Harry Brown at 828-259-5437 or hbrown@ashevillenc.gov for information and an application.
