How to make a payment
By mail. Water bills are mailed to customers in convertible envelopes that conveniently fold into return mailers. Please include your payment in this return envelope along with your payment stub and send it back using the U.S. Postal Service. If you lose your return mailer, you can use your own envelope and send payment to the City of Asheville, Customer Services Division, P.O. Box 733, Asheville, NC 28802.
Online. Want to save a stamp? Pay your bill online by visiting the City of Asheville Citizen Self Service system. Give it a try! Online payment is fast, convenient and easy.
Automatic draft. Register for automatic bank draft service to automatically pay for your water bill out of a checking or savings account. Paying your water bill by direct debit eliminates the need to write a check for utility charges, saves you the cost of a stamp, ensures prompt payment of bills even if you are out of town, provides a record of debits that were made by the city on your financial statement and requires no extra charge to you by your financial institution or the city.
To participate in automatic draft, complete an Authorization form (requires Adobe Acrobat Reader) for Pre-Arranged Payments and return it to the City of Asheville’s Accounting Division at P.O. Box 7148, Asheville, NC 28802. You will still receive a copy of your utility bill for each cycle, but the amount will be automatically drafted from your account. YOUR ACCOUNT MAY BE DRAFTED UP TO THREE (3) DAYS BEFORE YOUR DUE DATE.
For more information about automatic bank draft services, call the city’s Customer Services Division at (828) 251-1122.
In person or at the drop box. You may also deliver payment in person to Asheville City Hall located at 70 Court Plaza. Please bring your payment to the Customer Services Division on the first floor of City Hall. Payments may also be placed in the drop box located in the parking lot of the City of Asheville Public Works Building at 161 S. Charlotte St. Please note that payments placed in the drop box are not posted until the next business day.
Payment for your water bill is due 20 days after the billing date. If you pay your bill late, you will be sent a delinquent notice and your account will be subject to a $15 late fee.
If you need assistance with paying your bill, please contact the City of Asheville’s Customer Services Division at (828) 251-1122 to make payment arrangements to avoid having your water service interrupted. You can also visit the Customer Services Division on the first floor of City Hall from 8:00 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday though Thursday, 8:15 a.m.-5 p.m., Friday except on holidays.
