    SUPPORT SERVICES

    Animal Control is managed by a non-sworn supervisor and staffed by three non-sworn animal control officers. Officers are responsible for enforcing and regulating City Ordinances and state laws pertaining to animals.

    Property and Evidence is headed by a non-sworn supervisor and staffed by one non-sworn technician. The unit is responsible for receiving, inspecting and inventory of all property and evidence collected by APD employees.

    Emergency Communications is a team of highly trained telecommunicators staffs the Communications Unit. The team is trained to handle police emergency and non-emergency calls for service 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Team members are responsible for receiving, prioritizing and sending appropriate assistance to citizens of Asheville. The 25 non-sworn (civilian) employees in this unit are certified by the North Carolina Sheriff's Education and Training Standards Commission and are responsible for police and animal services communications.

    The Logistics Unit, composed of Sgt. Luke Bigelow and Officer Todd Brigman, is responsible for building maintenance, court liaison duties, issuance and collections of police property and employee uniforms.

    The Central Records Unit is composed of a non-sworn (civilian) supervisor and seven non-sworn clerks. This unit, along with other employees, is responsible for taking phone-in incident reports, distributing copies of incident and accident reports to the public, and providing general information about the agency.
