GANG SUPPRESSION UNIT
The Asheville Police Department has assigned two detectives to the Western Carolina Gang Task Force. The Western Carolina Gang Task Force is composed of five detectives, including officers from the Buncombe County Sheriff's Office and the Henderson County Sheriff's Office. These detectives are involved in investigating gang related crimes throughout all three jurisdictions. Detectives are also tasked with gaining intelligence, suppressing, and cataloguing gang activity. Detectives actively participate in prevention efforts such as the Buncombe County Gang Violence Prevention Project. At-risk youth are referred, as often as possible, to help them escape the gang culture and pressures.
