DRUG SUPPRESSION UNIT
The Asheville Police Department’s Drug Suppression Unit's (DSU) mission is to aggressively target street level drug activity and improve the quality of life for the citizens of Asheville. DSU is currently staffed by one lieutenant, two sergeants, 16 officers and one crime prevention community resource officer.
Because much of the crime that affects residents' lives can be traced back to the influence of illegal drugs, DSU officers use a variety of strategies to make participation in illegal drug activity unattractive for both users and sellers. To ensure that drug traffickers face the full spectrum of consequences for their actions, the Drug Suppression Unit partners with a variety of local, state, and federal agencies. These agencies include:
Reporting Drug Activity
While the efforts of all the agencies and individuals involved in the constant battle against illegal drugs have generated impressive results, many of our greatest successes have come from our partnership with residents. By using the DSU Drug Tip Line at (828) 259-5692, residents have provided the type of specific information that has led to many arrests. When residents become involved in efforts to improve quality of life in their own communities, criminals can no longer operate without fear of apprehension.
