PLANNING & RESEARCH
The Asheville Police Department's Planning and Research Unit is commanded by Lieutenant Rae Ferguson. This unit is responsible for researching new and innovative ways to allow for departmental growth. This is accomplished through policy review and new programs that will allow the police department to provide better service to the community.
Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies
One way that the department strives to improve the delivery of public service is through national accreditation. This requires the police department to maintain a body of standards, developed by public safety practitioners, that cover a wide range of up-to-date public safety initiatives to reach professional excellence.
The goals for the department's accreditation, are specifically to:
- Strengthen crime prevention and control capabilities
- Formalize essential management procedures
- Establish fair and nondiscriminatory personnel practices
- Improve service delivery and to
- Increase community and staff confidence in the agency.
Crime Analysis
The department's crime analyst is Ed Eads who is tasked with reviewing departmental and community trends to assist in our growth projections. He works closely with all the sections of the department to compile our crime statistics.
