CHIEF WILLIAM J. ANDERSON
Chief William J. Anderson was appointed Chief of Police for the City of Asheville on March 1, 2012. Chief Anderson is a native of Daytona Beach, Florida, where he retired from the Daytona Police Department as a Police Commander after 20 years of service. Chief Anderson’s most recent assignment was as Chief of Police for Greenville, NC where he served for five and a half years. He has also served as Chief of Police for the City of Elizabeth City, North Carolina for two and a half years and DeLand, Florida for three and a half years. Chief Anderson has over 34 years as a law enforcement officer with 13 years as a Chief of Police.
Chief Anderson holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice from Bethune-Cookman University in Daytona Beach, Florida and an Associate of Science Degree in Law Enforcement from the Daytona State College. He is also a graduate of the FBI National Academy, 192nd Session, in Quantico, Virginia.

Chief Anderson is married to his wife Sandra and has one son, Chad.
