Historic Resources

Historic preservation is a useful economic and quality-of-life tool. Preservation stabilizes property values and stimulates new investment in older residential neighborhoods and commercial areas. Asheville and Buncombe County have benefited from a boost to the tax base accompanied by relatively small public expenditures. 

Preservation efforts increase tourism and commercial activity and the improved appearance of areas enhances recruitment of industry. Historic preservation serves as a tangible link with the past, people and events that have helped shape our present. 

Preservation enhances our community's unique sense of place and connection to our past, which improves our overall quality of life.
