    Public Art and Cultural Commission

    The Public Art and Cultural Commission serves to plan and oversee the acquisition of public art in public buildings and public spaces in Asheville. The Commission will also promote Asheville as an “arts destination” city and use public art as a major attraction for cultural tourism and economic development, and in the process will educate the citizens of Asheville and visitors about local culture and history through art. Meets the 4th Thursday of each month from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. in the 1st floor conference room of City Hall.  For more information click here.


    Recreation Advisory Board

    The Recreation Advisory Board serves in an advisory capacity to the City Council, City Manager, and the Parks, Recreation & Cultural Arts Department, and makes recommendations regarding recreation policy concerning programs, personnel, finances, development, and land acquisition. Meets the 2nd Monday of each month from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. in the 1st floor conference room of City Hall.  For more information click here.

    Online Orientation Sessions & Quiz

    The followings six online presentations have been developed to train board members in City and Department operations and provide background on the role of board members. Each board member is responsible for viewing all presentations within three months of assuming their post. The Department recommends all board members view these once a year as an annual refresher.

    Note: Updates Pending

    After viewing all presentations, board members should take this non-scored "quiz" to test their knowledge. This quiz will also help the Department track who has completed their orientation.

    Orientation Tour

    A tour of major Parks, Recreation & Cultural Arts facilities is offered to board members several times throughout the year. A self-guided version is available.

    Brochures and maps of parks facilities are available upon request or by visiting the Parks, Recreation & Cultural Arts office located on the 4th floor of Asheville City Hall.
