Medical Response

In This Section

The Asheville Fire Department employs over 240 firefighters who are all certified Emergency Medical Technicians, otherwise known as EMT's. Since the Asheville Fire Department is a first responder department, answering over 7,500 EMS calls per year, it is important that firefighters are properly trained in order to serve the citizens of Asheville with the best medical assistance possible. Firefighters receive continuing educational training to keep up with the ever-changing and advancing medical technologies. Along with a department medical coordinator, each shift has qualified liaison personnel that are responsible for training, stocking equipment and answering other pertinent questions dealing with this area.
