    Thank you for your interest in our hiring process. The Asheville Fire Department's hiring process is as follows:

    • Practice dates for AFD Physical Ability Test are scheduled for August 27, 28 and September 5.  To schedule your  time for practice please call 828-232-4501. AFDPAT to be held at:  20 Canoe Lane, Asheville, NC 28804.
    • Written Human Relations and Comprehensive Exams are scheduled for September 7

      • There is an optional online practice test for $10.  Choose NFST (or CEB) when selecting the test to practice
    • View Video-Based Human Relations Test information sheet
    • AFD Physical Abillity Test dates are scheduled for September 13-20 (Qualified applicants will be notified of thier date/time) The faster your time the higher your score.
    • Description of Tasks to be Performed or Watch AFDPAT Video
    • Panel interviews are scheduled for September 23-26 (Qualified applicants will be notified of their date/time)
    • Final interviews TBD
    • Start date is mid October

    Basic Employment Requirements

    • High School Diploma or GED 
    • 18 years or older Valid Drivers License
    • Excellent physical condition 
    • Successful completion of all testing components
    • Successful completion of thorough background check
    • Successful completion of drug and alcohol screening  



    Starting Salary $29,934.47/year
