    Firefighter

    The Asheville Fire Department is currently accepting applications for employment.  To apply please go to the Human Resources Department Employment Opportunities web page. 

    Thank you for your interest in our hiring process. The Asheville Fire Department's hiring process is as follows:

    • Applications accepted online until May 27, 2012
    • Written Human Relations and Comprehensive Exams for applicants - tentative dates are May 24 or May 30.
    • View Comprehensive Examination Battery for more information
    • View Video-Based Human Relations Test information sheet
    • Physical Ability Testing tentatively set for June 1-5, 2012. Description of Tasks to be Performed or Watch AFDPAT Video
    • Practice date for ability testing is May 22 between 1-7pm.  Please call 251-4011 to set a practice time. Location is 300 Merrimon Ave.
    • Interviews for vacant positions are scheduled for June 11-15, 2012.

    Basic Employment Requirements

    • High School Diploma or GED 
    • 18 years or older Valid Drivers License
    • Excellent physical condition 
    • Successful completion of all testing components
    • Successful completion of thorough background check
    • Successful completion of drug and alcohol screening
