    Firefighter  (tentative hiring schedule)

    The City of Asheville will begin accepting applications for the position of firefighter on September 4, 2015.  If interested, please apply online - deadline is October 2nd.

    Thank you for your interest in our hiring process. The Asheville Fire Department's hiring process is as follows:


    Tentative Hiring Schedule:

    Physical Ability Practice sessions: To be announced.   Number to call for scheduling will be posted soon.

    The written exam takes approximately 3-4 hours to complete and dates are set for:
    Thursday, October 8th  at 5:30 pm
    Saturday, October 10th at 8:30 am
    Saturday, October 10th at 1:30pm

    Physical Ability testing will held November 2-11.

    Panel interviews are the week of  November 16th.

    Chief interviews will begin December 3rd.

    Tentative start date of academy is January 25th.

    All dates are subject to change and we will notify you by email as needed throughout the process.


    Basic Employment Requirements

    • High School Diploma or GED 
    • 18 years or older Valid Drivers License
    • Excellent physical condition 
    • Successful completion of all testing components
    • Successful completion of thorough background check
    • Successful completion of drug and alcohol screening  



    Starting Salary $32,307/year
