Grading & Erosion Control Inspections

After you have received the appropriate City of Asheville grading permit, have the erosion control measures installed. Once completed, notify the Stormwater Services Division construction inspectors to inspect the measures to make certain that they were installed as designed and as to the Standard Details and Specifications.  The inspectors will periodically inspect the measures to ensure they are being maintained during the grading and construction of your development.

If you see any possible erosion violations due to grading within the city limits and the extraterritorial zoning jurisdictions (ETJ), please contact the Stormwater Services Divisions at stormwater@ashevillenc.gov or call (828) 232-4567.

Emergency Sediment and Erosion Violations

If you see emergency sediment and erosion violations during the weekday hours of 5 p.m. to 8:30 a.m. and 24 hours on weekends and holidays within the city limits and the ETJ, please contact our on call duty officer at (828) 707-7578.  The on call inspector will only respond to the following violation criteria:

• Mud or sediment in a roadway, yard or basement directly related to a weather event.
• Mud or sediment in a roadway, yard or basement when the sources of the water are not known.
• Failure of an erosion control system that has been witnessed by a citizen or passerby.

Please take the criteria under consideration before you report any violation.
