Aloft Hotel & City Parking Garage to be constructed at 51 Biltmore Avenue

The Aloft hotel at 51 Biltmore Ave., includes public and private development components on a shared site. The site will house a city-owned public parking garage, the privately-owned and operated hotel, and privately-owned commercial retail space along the front of the property.

The city is responsible for constructing and operating the public parking garage. A private developer, McKibbon Hotel Group, is responsible for construction and operating the hotel and retail space. Part of the hotel will sit above the city’s parking garage, and the retail space will wrap around the garage façade.

    • Site work began March 21 and is expected to last about 18 months.
    • Pedestrian access will be available along Aston Street.
    • Street parking along Biltmore Avenue adjacent to Aston Street will be closed during the construction phase.
    • Hourly parking will be available in the lot at 86 S. Lexington St. Rates will be the same as city parking meter rates.

    May 26, 2011 Update

A major milestone will occur through the overnight hours on Tuesday, June 7. The cement foundation will be poured. At least 20 trucks will access the site per hour.

Every effort was taken to minimize noise, light and traffic impacts in the work area when planning for this stage of the project. However, some level of disruption in these impact areas should be expected.
