    PLANNING GROUPS

    Community Pariticpation

The Homeless Initiative is a partnership between Buncombe County and the city of Asheville and is part of a multi-level concensus that includes the federal, state and local governments. The Homeless Initiative Organizational chart shows hows the Homeless Initiative fits into this network.

The Homeless Initiative Advisory Committee and the Homeless Coalition are two planning groups that are crucial to the success of our community's 10 Year Plan to End Homelessness. Both groups have monthly meetings that are open to the public, and the community is welcomed and encouraged to attend. Community participation is key to implementing the best possible solutions!

If you have questions about how to get involved, please contact the Homeless Initiative at homeless.initiative@gmail.com or 828-515-16683

    Homeless Coalition

The Homeless Coalition is a group of advocates, service providers, and people who have experienced homelessness or are currently experiencing homelessness. The group manages the Continuum of Care grant, which provides nearly a million dollars to the community's homeless programs.

In November 2007, the Homeless Coalition voted to collaborate with the Homeless Initiative. Subsequently, planning sessions were merged and there are now four action-oriented workgroups designed to address the barriers to ending homelessness in Asheville and Buncombe County. These workgroups are Housing, Medical/Dental, Discharge and Employment and they meet during the scheduled Homeless Coaltion meetings.
