The City of Asheville Homeless Coalition, Homeward Bound and the Asheville Regional Housing Consortium were honored by the US Department of Housing and Urban Development on May 2, 2011 with a HOME program 20th Anniversary “Door Knocker Award”.
On March 24, 2011, the Asheville Buncombe Homeless Initiative hosted the 2011 Homeless Summit, "Housing for All: A Plan in Motion." More than 100 people attended the event which provided participants with an opportunity to discuss the 10-Year Plan to End Homelessness in Asheville and Buncombe County as our community looks towards taking its next steps to prevent and end homelessness.
At the 2011 Homeless Summit, "Housing for All: A Plan in Motion," the results of the annual Point-in-Time Count were revealed, showing that homelessness in the Asheville and Buncombe County area has been declining. The results show that there has been less reliance on shelters and more on permanent, supportive housing.
