    TOURISM DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY

    The Buncombe County Tourism Development Authority consists of 11 members – 4 members appointed by City Council (one person who is an owner or operator of a hotel, motel, bed and breakfast, or vacation rental management company, with 100 or less rental units, two people who are owners or operators of hotels, motels, bed and breakfasts, or vacation rental management companies, with more than 100 rental units, one person actively involved in tourist business who has participated in tourism promotion and who does not own or operate a hotel, motel or other taxable tourist accommodation); 4 members appointed by the Buncombe County Commissioners (one person who is an owner or operator of a hotel, motel, bed and breakfast, or vacation rental management company, with 100 or less rental units, two people who are owners or operators of hotels, motels, bed and breakfasts, or vacation rental management companies, with more than 100 rental units, one person actively involved in tourist business who has participated in tourism promotion and who does not own or operate a hotel, motel or other taxable tourist accommodation); 1 member appointed by the Chamber of Commerce; 1 member of City Council (who is an ex-officio non-voting member); and 1 member of the Buncombe County Commissioners (who is an ex-officio non-voting member).  The term of office is 3 years.

    The authority’s purpose is to further the development of travel, tourism, and conventions in the county through state, national and international advertising and promotion. The authority usually meets the fourth or last Wednesday of each month at 9 a.m. in the Chamber of Commerce Board Room at 36 Montford Avenue, Asheville. The normal length of the meeting is one to two hours.
