    PLANNING & ZONING COMMISSION

    The Planning and Zoning Commission is an advisory board to City Council that reviews text for proposed amendments to the Unified Development Ordinance; hears proposals to zone or change the zoning of property regulated under the UDO and then makes recommendations to City Council for final action; performs studies and surveys of the present conditions and probable future development of the City and its environs; formulates and recommends to the City Council the adoption or amendment of a comprehensive plan and other plans; reviews the terms of the UDO from time to time, as it deems appropriate, review applicants of planned unit development designation and preliminary plans; review and decide on approval of all proposed preliminary plats for major subdivision; and performs such additional powers and duties as may be set forth elsewhere in the UDO and in other laws and regulations.

    The Commission consists of 7 members, 5 City residents appointed by City Council and 2 residents of the extra-territorial area of the City and appointed by Buncombe County Commissioners. The length of term of office is three years.

    WORDING AMENDMENT

    1. A wording text amendment to Sections 7-15-1 and 7-5-8 of the Unified Development Ordinance for the purpose of updating and coordinating standards affecting the review and recordation of subdivisions.  Planner coordinating review – Shannon Tuch

    MAJOR SUBDIVISION

    1. A request for the review of a Major Subdivision for the creation of two lots and a public street within existing   City of Asheville right-of-way on property known as 16 Laurel Avenue and PIN 964928-4814.  The property is owned by Boulevard Development Group and the project contact is Chris Day.  Planner coordinating review – Jessica Bernstein

    LEVEL II

    1. A request for the review of a Level II site plan for the construction of an 80 room multi-story 58,598 square foot hotel building.  The subject parcel is 1.45 acres located at 184 Tunnel Road and PIN 9658-17-0598.  The property is owned by Milan Hotels Two, Inc. and the project contact is Monark Patel.  Planner coordinating review – Jessica Bernstein
    2. Review of a site-plan for the construction of a 58,803 sq. ft. five-story building containing 48 multi-family units and a 2 level parking garage.  The subject parcel is 0.55 acres located at 11 Collier Avenue and PIN 9648-38-5770.  The property is owned by Collier Avenue Properties, LLC and the project contact is Brian Kaiser.  Planner coordinating review- Alan Glines  

      Variance: Variance to design and operational standards found in Section 7-8-18(f)(13)a.(1.) & (2.) of the UDO relating to streetwall stepback.
